Are you planning on building a new home in 2022 and considering design options? Or maybe you’re ready to tackle your list of home improvement projects? Or perhaps you’re just curious what the next big thing in exterior design is so that you can be ahead of the curve? No matter which category best fits you, you’re going to love the home exterior trends in 2022. Exterior design is not difficult to do correctly; just find the style you like and implement it with the help of modern technology.
Black and white color palettes aren’t going anywhere in 2022. However, bright whites will be replaced with softer, warmer whites, and painted brick will take the place of simple white farmhouse siding. If your budget is tight, you can mix lower-cost siding with some painted brick to fit your needs. It just so happens that mixing exterior materials is also a big trend in 2022.
While soft white home exteriors will remain popular in 2022, the complete opposite will also be very popular, like dark, rich, moody exteriors. While a fully dark exterior may not be up your alley, there is a happy medium that we’ll see a lot of in 2022: color blocking. Color-blocking allows you to experiment with deep, moody charcoal colors (on one or more section(s) of your white house) without committing to painting your entire home a dark color.
Another option (if you’re nervous about committing to an entire section of dark paint) is to paint your shutters or front door a deep, rich color while keeping a soft white exterior base. Other popular color palettes are rooted in timeless and classic design. These palettes include soft neutrals, greens, and blues that blend seamlessly into nature.
One of the biggest trends is adding natural textures to your home’s exterior. The most common textures are wood trim and other wood elements and stone or brick accents. All of these natural elements add texture and depth to your curb appeal, especially if you have an all-white or all-black home.
Other trends include metal roof accents (e.g., metal roof over the front porch), dark gutters that contrast with white home exteriors, and lots of bronze and copper elements (e.g., gutters, metal roofs, etc.).
There is one slight downside to this years’ natural elements and copper accents trend. These aren’t the cheapest exterior materials available. Stone, brick, copper, metal, and natural wood aren’t exactly budget-friendly. However, there are ways to create this look on a lower budget. You can choose vinyl siding and faux stone for starters. I recommend that you talk to your builder about material options to help you achieve the look you want within your budget.
Now that you have a better idea of the home exterior trends for 2022 and you feel excited about designing your future home’s curb appeal, you can finally plan how you want to build or make upgrades to your home. But remember… this is your home, so you must design your exterior (and your entire home) in a way that makes you and your family happy.
